IPOD Nano 5th Gen

The new ipod nano 5th gen is definitely an improvement of the last generation. The body basically remains the same. However, the LCD has slightly increased from 2 to 2.2. This is definitely not conducive for watching two hour movies with your buddies. But it should be enough to play some quick clips.

The bigger screen comes at the expense of the click wheel which needed a bit of size reduction. This isn't really that noticeable for those with small and cutesy fingers. However, some extra expertise and adroitness maybe required from bigger more masculine fingers. Generally, this shouldn't be that much of a problem.

One thing really distinguishable is that the new nano now has a video camera. Ipod definitely barges into the quick recording gizmos as popularized by cellphone cameras. Though the resolution is just 640x480 VGA, this is still very much suitable for the you tube crowd out there. It boasts of various filters such as the cyborg, security camera, film grain, tunnel vision and more. Plus the microphone pics up the conversation at a surprisingly good quality.

It also now has a standard FM player. This comes with an added feature of "Live Pause." You can stop your program for as long as 15 minutes and it will store it in cache memory.

You can enjoy a mini speaker. The nano is already small enough itself so you'd wonder how Apple fit that speaker into that tiny package.

For all ye fitness buffs out there you gain a pedometer. Count how much calories you can burn. The accuracy may not be at par with Nike's own version. Still this is one cool feature to boot.

Grab the new Ipod Nano for $150 to $180.
